To celebrate Danube Day 2025, the Lifeboat Team welcomed pupils and adults alike into the fascinating world of sturgeons!

At the Lifeboat in Vienna, visitors were invited to take part in guided tours to discover the workings of the sturgeon rearing system and observe different life stages of sterlet, stellate sturgeon, and Russian sturgeon up close.

The main Danube Day event in Austria took place at schlossORTH, the National Park Centre of the National Park Donau-Auen. There, pupils explored the diverse aspects of the Danube through an exciting educational riddle. Activities ranged from learning about measuring the riverbed to building boats, also learning interesting facts about the different species of sturgeons and their life history. A special highlight was the chance to try and spot a beluga sturgeon in the pond.
