Floating hatchery in development

One of the six rescue measures of the LIFE-Boat 4 Sturgeon project is the construction of a floating hatchery station on the Danube in Vienna. The viadonau provides the former stone transport ship MS Negrelli. Within the project period, around 1.6 million sturgeons are to be reared on the ship by 2030 and juveniles of the various species are to be released into the wild in different sections of the Danube. The planning of the ship has already started and the first 3D models are available.

Converted into a floating hachery, the MS Negrelli will in future provide a protected home for mother and juvenile fish of the highly endangered Danube sturgeons.
