A major milestone for sturgeon conservation: Europe’s first floating hatchery for sturgeons opened on the Danube in Vienna. The old Danube ship MS Negrelli turned yesterday officially into LIFE-Boat4Sturgeon. The ship has been transformed into a state-of-the-art hatchery. By 2030, around 1.6 million juvenile sturgeons will be raised within the project and released into the wild. Politicians, fishing organizations, NGOs researchers and many more came by to celebrate together.
Starting in summer, visitors can experience the project during guided tours on the former MS Negrelli. More information coming soon.
